Teflon is a synthetic chemical compound patented by DuPont that is found in hundreds of cooking products. For years, DuPont hid the health hazards of Teflon from consumers—namely that the process used to make Teflon requires chemicals that may cause cancer and birth defects. One of these chemicals, PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), remains in the human body for years.
