The Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch is a surgical patch used to repair ventral hernias. Its maker, Davol Inc., issued several voluntarily recalls between 2005 and 2007 after the patches were linked to life-threatening side effects: bowel obstruction and perforation, intestinal fistulae, and infections. The FDA has advised patients with a Kugel patch who experience symptoms of patch failure such as abdominal pain or fever to seek medical care immediately.
