Fosamax is an FDA-approved medication prescribed to treat osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones, a common condition among older women. Millions of Fosamax prescriptions have been sold in the U.S., but in 2004, a connection between Fosamax use and osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ, or "jaw death") was revealed.
