Aredia and Zometa are both made by Novartis Pharmaceuticals and both belong to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates. Like Fosamax, Aredia and Zometa are prescribed to prevent and treat osteoporosis.
Millions of American women have used these medications, which have recently been linked to a rare condition known as "jaw death," or osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). The most serious cases of ONJ require the removal of parts of the jaw. Problems with bones in other areas of the body have also been reported after Aredia or Zometa treatment, with patients being compelled to use walkers, canes, or wheelchairs due to the bone damage.
If you developed ONJ as a result of taking one of these drugs, contact The Corea Firm, PLLC today to discuss your legal options with an experienced attorney.
